“Google Introduces Option to Change Gmail Address”

Millions of Gmail users are set to have the option to change their email addresses to something entirely new. Google had previously hinted at this update, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. In a recent post on the Gmail blog page, Google has officially stated that users can now switch their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address also ending in gmail.com.

This change could be well-received, especially for individuals who wish to alter their username or have experienced changes in their circumstances. However, Google has emphasized an essential point to note.

According to the tech giant based in the US, “The ability to change your Google Account email is being gradually introduced to all users, and you may not have access to this option yet.”

So how does this process function?

The new system permits both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one.

Google assures users that none of their account data will be impacted. This means that all photos, messages, and emails linked to the original address will remain unaffected.

For those interested in checking if they can switch to a new Gmail address without losing any emails, here are the steps to follow:

– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info located in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Under “Google Account email,” select Change Google Account email.
– If the option is not visible, it may not yet be accessible to you.
– Enter the desired new username, ensuring it is not currently in use or previously deleted.
– Click Change email, then confirm the change by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the prompts displayed on the screen.

Upon completion, your new Gmail address will become the primary email for your account, while the old address will be retained as an alternate email.
