Google has announced that it will discontinue Chrome support for older versions of Apple’s macOS on MacBooks. While Chrome will still function on Mac devices, users may be at risk as updates and security patches will no longer be provided. This change will impact Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier, prompting users to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to receive ongoing browser support.
Unfortunately, some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs purchased before 2018, may not be compatible with macOS Ventura, necessitating the purchase of a new device for continued safe Chrome usage. The update is set to take effect in July this year.
According to Google, Chrome version 150 is the final release supporting macOS 12 (Monterey), while Chrome version 151, scheduled for July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or newer. Users are advised to transition to macOS 13 or later to ensure access to future Chrome updates and security features.
Although older versions of Chrome will still operate, no further updates will be issued for users on macOS 12 (Monterey). Google recommends upgrading to a supported macOS version, such as macOS 13 Ventura or newer, for continued security updates and access to the latest Chrome functionalities.
