McCullagh was the grandson of the renowned Belfast boxing coach, Paul McCullagh, who passed away at the age of 72 in October 2018. His grandfather trained boxing greats like Barry McGuigan and Hugh Russell during his esteemed coaching career at the Immaculata amateur club.
His father, Paul, a professional referee and former champion amateur boxer, according to reports from Belfast Live, also expressed deep sadness over the loss. The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) conveyed their condolences, highlighting McCullagh’s achievements and expressing sympathy for his family and loved ones.
Former teammate Aidan Walsh and trainer Jonathan O’Brien shared heartfelt messages of remembrance for McCullagh. The Belfast boxing community also paid tribute to McCullagh, remembering him fondly and offering condolences to his family and friends.
