“Virgin Media Upgrades Select Customers to Wi-Fi 6 Hub 5 Router”

Virgin Media is set to enhance broadband services for select customers by upgrading their home routers. Users still using older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will receive the latest Hub 5 model with Wi-Fi 6 technology for improved connectivity. Eligible customers will be notified via email throughout 2026 as the upgrades are gradually implemented.

The Hub 5 boasts Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to ensure better coverage within homes. Virgin Media plans to upgrade thousands of customers to this advanced router in 2026. Customers do not need to take any action until they receive direct communication from Virgin Media or can check their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.

To identify their router model, users can check the sticker on the device or view it on the Virgin Media Connect app. Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can enhance broadband performance, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, increased stability, and support for faster Gig1 speeds. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, significantly faster than the UK average.

Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology known for its faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in crowded environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, operates efficiently across different frequency bands, and is energy-efficient—ideal for modern homes with multiple smart devices and high data needs. While Wi-Fi 7 is available, Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for most users.
