The company performed poorly in handling customer complaints, landing in the bottom tier among its industry peers. Joining Scottish Power in the bottom rankings were EDF Energy and British Gas, as revealed by consumer group Which? after analyzing feedback from nearly 12,000 energy customers.
Scottish Power received the second-lowest customer satisfaction rating at 62%, resulting in an overall score of 56% after considering various performance metrics. EDF Energy fared slightly better with a score of 58%, while British Gas achieved an overall rating of 59% but faced criticism for its complaint handling procedures.
On the positive end of the spectrum, lesser-known supplier E outshined its competitors with an impressive score of 79%. E, based in Birmingham, prides itself on not imposing penalty fees for customers seeking to switch providers and received commendation for its customer-friendly practices. Octopus Energy secured the second spot with a score of 74%, along with 100Green and Sainsbury’s Energy, all named as Which? Recommended Providers.
Emily Seymour, the Energy Editor at Which?, emphasized the importance of customers seeking better value and service from energy suppliers. She highlighted the opportunity for customers to switch to providers offering competitive fixed tariffs and superior customer support if dissatisfied with their current service.
In response to the rankings, ScottishPower defended its performance, citing positive feedback from the independent Citizens Advice scorecard and highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance customer service. EDF Energy expressed commitment to improving service quality and supporting customers in need, while British Gas noted a significant decrease in complaints and high overall satisfaction scores according to Ofgem data.
