Cold case investigators have identified a suspected killer more than twenty years after a mother was raped, stabbed 16 times, and set on fire. Jennifer Kiely, 35, was the victim in this unsolved case that has puzzled authorities for two decades. Despite initial links to notorious criminals like Mark Dixie and Peter Tobin, the true culprit remained elusive until now.
Sussex Police have revealed that DNA evidence overwhelmingly points to Keith Dowbekin, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 60. DNA recovered from the crime scene, including a cigarette butt, matched Dowbekin’s profile and was found on the victim’s body and in her blood. Dowbekin, also known as Keith Black and Keith Broadbent, had previous run-ins with the law related to rape offenses in Great Yarmouth.
The investigation took a significant turn when familial DNA analysis led authorities to Dowbekin’s relatives, eventually pinpointing him as the prime suspect. Sussex Police are now confident in their case against Dowbekin, shedding light on the brutal nature of the crime that took Jennifer’s life.
Jennifer’s family expressed relief at the resolution of the case, emphasizing her kind and loving nature. They highlighted her positive attributes and called for compassion towards the homeless and those struggling with mental health issues. The family also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of law enforcement that led to this breakthrough.
In an emotional plea for justice, Jennifer’s mother, Margaret, urged her daughter’s killer to come forward and face the consequences. The tragic event, which occurred in Eastbourne in 2005, left a lasting impact on Jennifer’s loved ones, who now find a sense of closure in the latest developments of the case.
