SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated, “At least 10 people lost their lives in Saulsville, Pretoria, with over 10 others injured and receiving medical treatment. Similarly, previous mass shootings have left a trail of devastation, such as the incident where eight individuals were killed at a birthday celebration in the city of Gqeberha in January 2023, and the tragic event in 2022 where 16 lives were lost at a bar in the Johannesburg township of Soweto following an armed assault on patrons.
