“NATO Commits $1B Monthly for US Weapons to Aid Ukraine”

NATO member countries are set to allocate over $1 billion monthly for the purchase of American weapons to support Ukraine, as announced by the alliance’s leader.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte disclosed during a gathering of European foreign ministers in Brussels that starting from 2026, the alliance will finance American weapons and ammunition for Ukraine, including offensive systems. The primary goal is to deliver essential equipment to Ukraine, such as interceptor missiles for air defense systems, through the Purl initiative established this year. The initiative aims to address the request of US President Donald Trump for other allies to share the burden of providing military assistance to Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters at the meeting, Finnish foreign minister Elina Valtonen emphasized the importance of initiating a complete ceasefire as a crucial step towards building trust, citing the lack of concessions from Russia, the perceived aggressor.

Estonian foreign minister Margus Tsahkna expressed concerns over Putin’s unyielding stance, noting an escalation of hostilities on the battlefield and signaling a lack of willingness for peace negotiations.

Furthermore, European Union lawmakers and member states reached a consensus on a significant agreement to prohibit all imports of Russian gas by autumn 2027, in response to the ongoing geopolitical tensions.

In a separate development, President Putin issued a warning to Europe about the potential consequences of engaging in a conflict with Russia, labeling European proposals on Ukraine as unacceptable. This statement came following a meeting between Russian President Putin and Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Moscow.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov affirmed Russia’s commitment to ongoing negotiations with the US towards a peace agreement for Ukraine, highlighting the importance of a collaborative effort to reach a compromise. Peskov acknowledged Trump’s role in facilitating the discussions and criticized EU leaders for their perceived focus on undermining Russia strategically.
