“Dense Fog Causes Travel Disruptions in UK”

Britons are set to experience travel disruptions this morning as dense fog is expected to cover various parts of the country. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the fog, which is projected to persist until around 10 am. The alert encompasses multiple regions, with the Midlands and the Home Counties likely to be most affected.

According to the weather agency’s website, the fog patches, particularly in rural areas, will have visibility of less than 100 meters in some places and are anticipated to gradually dissipate this morning. This could lead to slower journey times, delays in bus and train services, and possible flight disruptions.

Birmingham Airport, located just outside the warned areas, is on high alert due to reduced visibility caused by the fog. Similar concerns exist for Bristol Airport and East Midlands Airport, although they are not officially within the alert zone.

Driving conditions, especially on rural roads in the Home Counties, are expected to be hazardous. Major motorways like the M40, M5, and M1 may also present challenges during the morning rush hour.

The Met Office advises individuals to check road conditions before driving, allow extra travel time, and be prepared to adjust plans if necessary. It is recommended to ensure fog lights are functioning before embarking on journeys. Travel via bus, train, flights, or ferries might also face disruptions, so it is advisable to stay updated with travel providers’ information.

Although the fog is expected to dissipate gradually, rain is predicted to follow, particularly along the western coast of Wales, Lancashire, and Cumbria later in the day. Temperatures will be cooler than Tuesday, with highs of 8-9°C in Southeast England, contrasting with the peak of 12.6°C recorded in Slough, Berkshire, on the previous day.
