“TV Star Issues Alert Over AI Scanning Gmail Emails”

An alert of significance has been issued to numerous Gmail users, prompting attention for those who are averse to the notion of artificial intelligence scanning their emails. The recent warning was shared online by Lori Greiner, a prominent American TV personality and entrepreneur.

Over the weekend, the star of Shark Tank conveyed a message on Instagram urging Gmail account holders to take heed, emphasizing the importance of sharing the information with friends and family to ensure their safety.

The caution arises from Google’s introduction of new AI features aimed at analyzing emails to offer functionalities such as intelligent searches, contextual responses, and email overviews. Despite Google’s assurance that it does not read messages for personal purposes, Greiner expressed her apprehensions.

In her Instagram post, the celebrity advised Gmail users not to overlook the warning, revealing that Google has been allowing AI to scrutinize all email content, including financial records, tax details, and personal communications without users’ awareness.

For those feeling concerned, there is a straightforward solution to disable this setting. Greiner reassured users that they can deactivate AI in Gmail within 30 seconds by following a few simple steps.

To disable smart features, users should navigate to Settings, select “see all settings,” locate “Smart features,” and turn off the option for Gmail, Chat, and Meet. By doing so, Google will cease scanning email content. Additionally, users can manage Workspace Smart Features by unchecking boxes to restrict data utilization for AI across various products.

Google maintains that personal data is inaccessible to its team or third parties, ensuring the security of users’ information. The tech giant clarified that its foundational AI models, including Gemini, do not undergo training using personal emails. Access granted to Gemini in Gmail is limited to specific tasks, such as summarizing emails, with user privacy being paramount.

While Google asserts the security of user data, individuals uncomfortable with AI scanning their emails may choose to disable the smart feature in Gmail for added peace of mind.
