Beauty Bay, an online retailer of cosmetics, is facing the possibility of going out of business following the submission of a notice to appoint administrators. This action initiates a process that grants a temporary legal protection against creditor actions for a period of ten days.
According to a report by Sky News earlier this week, Beauty Bay took down its website and displayed a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.” Established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers over 200 brands on its platform, including popular names like Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its own product line.
The company had been exploring various funding options, including a potential sale, as reported previously. Interpath, an advisory firm, had been working closely with Beauty Bay to conduct a thorough review of its operations. Currently employing 65 individuals, Beauty Bay has not yet issued a public statement regarding its situation.
In a related development, the fashion retailer Quiz has also entered administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies are affecting Quiz’s head office in Glasgow and its warehouse in Lanarkshire. The Quiz website has been deactivated, and customers with pending online orders are being informed of cancellations.
Customers who have made payments via credit card for orders over £100 are advised to seek refunds under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. For transactions made with debit cards or credit cards for amounts less than £100, consumers may explore using Chargeback within 120 days of purchase. Additionally, Quiz is offering in-store exchanges for unwanted items, but gift cards are no longer being accepted.
Despite these challenges, Quiz continues to operate its stores and plans to hold clearance sales across all branches. The retailer has 40 stores across the UK and concessions within New Look and Matalan stores, with the concessions operating independently from the administration proceedings.
