Glenn Byrne remained upbeat and jovial after being hospitalized post his defeat to William Crolla on Friday night. The Irish boxer suffered his first career loss as Crolla emerged victorious in the seventh round of their super welterweight bout at Planet Ice, Altrincham.
Despite Byrne knocking down Crolla multiple times throughout the fight, referee Ron Kearney allowed the match to continue, leading to Crolla’s eventual knockout win. Byrne, now with a record of 7-1-1, received medical attention in the ring before being taken to the hospital.
Managed by his brother Jay Byrne, Glenn’s spirits were reported as high, with updates awaited post a CT scan. Concerns were raised about the referee’s decisions, with promoter Eddie Hearn praising Crolla’s resilience and expressing hopes for Byrne’s recovery.
Crolla also extended his well wishes to Byrne, acknowledging the intense battle they both fought. Hearn emphasized the significance of the match on both fighters’ careers and praised their determination.
