“Argos Introduces Manhattan S4-R Box: A Sky Q Alternative”

Argos is now offering a popular alternative to Sky Q-style upgrades with the introduction of the Manhattan S4-R set-top box. This device, which was recently launched, provides similar features to Sky’s premium service, such as the ability to record shows, pause live TV, and store content on its built-in hard drive.

The standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R is its cost structure. Unlike Sky Q, where users have to pay a monthly fee, the Manhattan S4-R offers access to over 100 channels without any additional charges after the initial purchase. This is made possible by the device’s compatibility with Freesat, utilizing an existing satellite dish to deliver free TV channels directly to your television. Notable channels include BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, Legend, Sky Mix, TLC, U&Dave, and That’s TV 2.

Manhattan emphasizes that the S4-R boasts a user-friendly interface, built-in search functions, and access to a vast library of on-demand entertainment totaling over 60,000 hours. Supported apps include BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.

While the Manhattan S4-R may not offer premium sports and movie packages like Sky Q, Freesat’s primary advantage lies in its free-to-watch model. The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available for purchase at £219.99 from retailers like Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions set to debut soon. The device is already in high demand, as indicated by Argos labeling it as “in demand” and “selling fast.”

According to Manhattan’s COO Alex Arbab-Zadeh, the S4-R intends to provide the same subscription-free experience as the company’s T4-R Freeview recorder to Freesat users. The S4-R enhances recording capabilities by enabling up to four simultaneous recordings, an improvement from the previous two-channel limit. Arbab-Zadeh positions the S4-R as an attractive alternative for households seeking a cost-effective solution with enhanced flexibility and content options.

The Pleio puck, another innovative device, aims to disrupt traditional TV services by offering Freely streaming access to TVs without requiring an aerial. This alternative provides over 50 live channels via the internet rather than conventional broadcast methods.

Following initial stock shortages, the Pleio puck is now back in stock through various retailers like Amazon and eBay, priced at £99.99 and including a gaming controller along with access to over 200 online games.

In other news, Sky has announced a 20% price reduction in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. The Sky Glass Air TV now starts at £4.50 per month, while the upgraded Sky Glass Gen 2 model, featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, is available from £11 per month.
