Samsung has introduced its latest series of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple. The tech giant from Korea revealed three new devices, with the standout being the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Departing from the previous Fold models, Samsung has opted for a new “passport-style” design characterized by a shorter and wider form factor. While this may seem unconventional when closed, unfolding the device reveals a layout that maximizes usability.
Featuring a spacious 7.6-inch display, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers a tablet-like experience suitable for activities like streaming content, binge-watching, and mobile gaming. This launch holds significance as Apple is anticipated to launch its own foldable iPhone later this year, with rumors hinting at a similar radical design choice.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 boasts being the thinnest and lightest Fold model yet, weighing just 180g. It includes an upgraded hinge for enhanced durability and longevity. The device’s larger screen benefits from Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for improved visibility in bright conditions.
Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, coupled with a 4,800mAh battery offering rapid charging capabilities, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 promises efficient performance. Additionally, a dual-camera setup, Gorilla Glass protection, and advanced Galaxy AI tools enhance the device’s photography, durability, and user experience.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced starting from £1,699 and is currently open for pre-orders. In contrast, Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, expected later this year, could cost over £2,000.
Samsung has also unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling its predecessor but featuring significant upgrades, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and an advanced camera system with improved sensors and video capabilities. The device showcases a stronger hinge and a refined display structure, aiming to reduce the crease and provide a seamless unfolding experience.
With a larger 5,000mAh battery and a starting price of £1,899, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra promises extended battery life and enhanced user experience.
Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design while introducing improvements such as a thinner profile, lighter build, upgraded external display, and enhanced performance and camera features.
