The lawsuit, filed in California and reported by CBC News, alleges that Keren Urinov demanded to be hired as Morissette’s tour director for 15 years with substantial compensation, threatening to report Morissette to British authorities if her demands were not met.
Morissette is pursuing civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation claims against Urinov, asserting that she will not succumb to blackmail tactics and aims to expose Urinov’s scheme. Urinov, who was initially hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour in 2025, had a controversial incident at a U.K. airport involving the seizure of a bag containing marijuana and a tranquilizer.
Following the tour, Urinov allegedly sent threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a long-term contract with generous financial terms and immigration assistance to work in the U.S. The lawsuit also highlights instances where Urinov’s management of the tour was deemed unsatisfactory, including substantial financial losses due to management errors and undisclosed past criminal activities.
Morissette, reluctant to resort to legal action, felt compelled to sue to prevent being coerced into a detrimental long-term agreement with someone she considers incompetent and manipulative. The singer is seeking a trial by jury in response to the lawsuit. As of now, there has been no response from Urinov or Morissette’s representatives regarding the matter.
