The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) disclosed the apprehension of a juvenile in Montreal regarding terrorism suspicions. According to a recent RCMP statement, the youth had purportedly been scheming an assault aimed at a local school. Allegedly, he employed artificial intelligence in planning the attack and made threatening posts on the messaging platform Telegram, targeting various groups such as Muslims, Haitians, and the 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
Sgt. Érique Gasse, an RCMP spokesperson, mentioned that the FBI had provided tips a few weeks ago about the individual’s intentions. The arrest took place at the juvenile’s residence on Friday morning as part of an investigation led by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which focuses on monitoring and disrupting criminal activities by individuals or groups posing threats to Canada’s national security.
Gasse added that the suspect is currently being interrogated while investigators conduct a search for electronic devices or any relevant evidence at his home. The police operation aimed to thwart the suspected activities of the individual and obtain a peace bond for monitoring and intervention purposes. The juvenile is expected to appear in youth court on Saturday, with potential charges to follow as per the RCMP’s release statement.
