Daniel Dubois has parted ways with trainer Don Charles following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois will now be under the guidance of Tony Sims, a former coach of Anthony Joshua. This decision comes shortly after Kieran Farrell, Charles’ assistant trainer, also decided to part ways with the team.
Dubois initially joined forces with Charles two years ago after working with Shane McGuigan and Mark Tibbs. Charles was present in Dubois’ corner during his significant victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua, resulting in Dubois being crowned world champion.
The defeat to Usyk prompted Dubois to make changes in his training setup. Usyk first defeated Dubois in 2023 and repeated his victory two years later with a knockout in the fifth round. Dubois is currently strategizing his comeback and is not expected to return to the ring this year.
Following his loss to Usyk, reports emerged that Dubois’ father hosted a gathering at their home before the fight, with around 70 attendees present. Charles clarified that it wasn’t a party but a gathering, emphasizing the positive impact it had on Dubois’ energy levels during his victorious bout against Anthony Joshua.
Despite the changes in Dubois’ training team and approach, Charles expressed confidence in the strategies that led to past successes. The focus remains on preparing Dubois effectively for his future fights.
