Two individuals, a man and a boy, tragically lost their lives when a car mysteriously veered off the road in South Tyneside, according to authorities. The incident, involving a single white Skoda Octavia, occurred on John Reid Road in south Shields just after 8:55 pm last night, prompting a rapid response from Northumbria Police. The cause of the vehicle leaving the road remains unknown as investigations are ongoing.
John Reid Road has been shut down in both directions as law enforcement conducts inquiries, with nearby Brockley Avenue also sealed off. The emergency operation included North East Ambulance Service, Great North Air Ambulance, and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, as per a report by Chronicle Live. Tragically, a man in his 40s and a school-aged boy sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.
Family members of the deceased have been notified and are receiving support from specialized officers, confirmed Northumbria Police. Another man in his 30s, who suffered serious injuries, is currently hospitalized in stable condition and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The North East Ambulance Service responded to the traffic incident and transported one patient to RVI hospital for further treatment.
