An anchor from the popular morning show, Good Morning Britain, has declared his departure due to ITV’s ongoing cost-cutting measures. Will Godley, a seasoned news reporter who has been a vital part of the morning news team for four years, will be leaving the network to join GB News.
Using the platform X, previously known as Twitter, Will shared the news, stating: “JOB NEWS. Excited to begin as a National Reporter at @GBNEWS in September! Unfortunately, this means bidding farewell to @GMB after four incredible years. Many thanks to the exceptional team who made even the night shifts enjoyable. I am eagerly looking forward to my new role at GB News!”
Starting from January 2026, ITV daytime programming will undergo significant scheduling changes. Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes, now airing from 6am to 9.30am daily. However, the program Lorraine, following immediately after, will be reduced to just a half-hour slot starting at 9.30am instead of its usual hour.
Additionally, Good Morning Britain will only air for 30 weeks a year, with the show ending at 10am during its off weeks.
This Morning will maintain its regular weekday slot from 10am to 12.30pm throughout the year, while Loose Women will continue in the 12.30-1.30pm slot. Both shows will also only broadcast for 30 weeks annually, similar to Lorraine’s new schedule.
The news of Will’s exit follows the recent revelation that US correspondent Noel Phillips was let go from the program. Reports from Deadline indicated that he was removed from his role as part of ITV’s efforts to reduce costs by £15 million. Phillips, who joined the show in 2021 as a US correspondent, covered significant events such as the US elections and LA wildfires.
After his departure, Noel appeared on the show, sharing his experience of being scammed out of nearly $30,000, expressing feelings of embarrassment, shame, and worthlessness. He highlighted the mental trauma caused by the incident, questioning how someone in his line of work could fall victim to such a scam.
