Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator, has launched a new service called Map Your Mobile to help smartphone users determine the best mobile network signal in their area. By entering their postcode into the Map Your Mobile tool, consumers can see which mobile operator offers the best performance in their location.
According to Ofcom, many users may be missing out on better data and call quality by not using the most suitable mobile network for where they spend the most time. Map Your Mobile is now the most comprehensive tool for comparing mobile coverage and performance across the UK.
The tool displays a map indicating the network that provides the best performance once a postcode is entered. Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, Natalie Black, explained that Map Your Mobile offers detailed coverage and performance information tailored to modern smartphone needs.
In addition to checking performance at home, Ofcom encourages users to assess their work address and commute route to make informed decisions about switching to a better network if necessary. The new tool incorporates crowdsourced data from Opensignal and predictive data from UK mobile operators to provide accurate and real-time information.
As mobile users increasingly rely on fast and reliable coverage for activities like gaming, video streaming, and remote work, the updated tool reflects users’ modern connectivity needs more effectively. Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant emphasized the importance of reliable mobile coverage for economic growth and praised the tool for empowering consumers to choose the network that best suits their needs.
