A second horse suffered an injury at Goodwood, following the recent loss of Trueshan at the same venue. Trueshan, a beloved stayer, tragically broke a leg during the Group 1 Goodwood Cup, a race he had previously won. The incident left him in an irrecoverable condition, as confirmed by James Given, the BHA’s equine welfare director.
Trueshan’s trainer, Alan King, expressed his deep emotions about the loss, acknowledging the overwhelming support received from fans and the racing community. King highlighted Trueshan’s remarkable career and the bond they shared, emphasizing the horse’s reliability and soundness throughout his training.
Reflecting on the unfortunate event, King explained that it was a rare accident unrelated to the horse’s care or track conditions. He compared it to a previous incident with another horse but found solace in knowing that Trueshan would be laid to rest alongside other beloved horses from his stable.
King praised the veterinary team for their professionalism and compassion during Trueshan’s final moments. Meanwhile, during a race the following day, Tuscan Star encountered a similar issue and had to be withdrawn for evaluation and treatment.
The incidents have cast a shadow over the Goodwood event, prompting a somber atmosphere among participants and spectators.
