“BrewDog to Close Ten Bars, Starting with Camden Venue”

BrewDog has announced the closure of ten of its bars, with one venue set to close this Friday. The Scottish brewery and craft beer company disclosed that its Camden location will shut down on Friday, while other establishments, including the flagship Aberdeen venue, will follow suit starting this Saturday.

In response to the closures, BrewDog has initiated a consultation process with affected staff that will span at least 14 days. The company anticipates relocating many employees impacted by the shutdowns to other bar locations.

CEO James Taylor addressed the situation, stating that the decision to close the venues was due to their lack of profitability. He emphasized that sustaining these bars would strain the overall business, hindering investment in areas with growth potential. Taylor emphasized that this move was not solely reactive to challenges in the UK hospitality market but a proactive step to refocus the bar division’s objectives.

A BrewDog spokesperson confirmed the closures as part of a strategic shift to optimize the bar business. Despite efforts and hard work, the affected bars could not achieve commercial viability. The company aims to minimize the impact on its workforce by reassigning many affected employees within the BrewDog network and providing support for those leaving the business.

While BrewDog remains enthusiastic about its bar operations and optimistic about the future, the closures faced criticism from Unite Hospitality for the short notice given to impacted workers. The organization expressed concern over the three-day notice period for redundancy consultation.
