Apple has introduced an update to its Self Service Repair program, allowing users to fix their iPads at home starting this week. This initiative aims to prolong the lifespan of Apple products by enabling customers to replace parts themselves rather than discarding the devices.
Users can now purchase official spare parts, tools, and manuals from Apple to repair various components of their iPads, such as displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports. Brian Naumann, Apple’s vice president of AppleCare, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating durable products and extending their usage through safe and secure repair services.
The self-repair program will initially cover models like iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16). This expansion follows the inclusion of 65 Apple products in the self-repair program, including the iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio.
Apple has also enhanced its repair network by providing genuine parts, tools, and training to a broader range of service providers, including Apple Store locations, Apple Authorised Service Providers, and Independent Repair Providers. The Self-Service Repair option complements existing repair services, offering customers more flexibility in maintaining their Apple devices.
The iPad self-repair update will roll out on May 29, starting in the UK and Europe.
