“Upgrade Your Wi-Fi Router: Stay Ahead with Latest Technology”

If you haven’t checked or upgraded your Wi-Fi router recently, now might be a good opportunity to do so. Even though most internet devices seem to offer a decent signal, broadband technology has made significant advancements, potentially leaving you behind.

According to experts at Broadband Savvy, many households still have outdated Wi-Fi 5 routers, which struggle to keep up with modern demands. Wi-Fi 5, introduced over a decade ago, has been surpassed by newer technologies like Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and the latest Wi-Fi 7, capable of handling faster download speeds and multiple connected devices.

Although most UK Internet Service Providers (ISPs) now provide Wi-Fi 6 routers, many customers still use Wi-Fi 5 devices. Tom Paton, the founder of Broadband Savvy, highlighted that Wi-Fi 5 has limitations compared to newer standards, especially for users with high-speed broadband plans and numerous connected devices.

When considering renewing your contract or switching providers, it’s essential to be cautious. Most ISPs offer 24-month contracts, locking you into outdated technology. Broadband providers are encouraged to offer better router options on fast fibre plans to prevent customers from being stuck with obsolete equipment.

To ensure you have the latest technology, inquire with your ISP about upgrading to at least a Wi-Fi 6 router. Some providers, like Plusnet, are still offering Wi-Fi 5 routers on ultrafast plans, while others, like EE, provide the choice of Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 routers across their services.

For future-proof internet speeds, communicate with your ISP about upgrading your router. Additionally, consider Wi-Fi boosters like Amazon’s Eero, which offer Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, enhancing your current setup instantly.
