“Tour de France Prankster Disrupts Race, Milan Wins Stage 17”

French police and security personnel had to intervene when a prankster, disguised as a cyclist, intruded onto the Tour de France track just before a crucial stage’s conclusion. The unidentified individual, outfitted in full cycling attire to mimic a rider, was swiftly identified by security as he jumped over barriers with his bike, attempting to cross the finish line of Stage 17 while wearing a Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale jersey.

Promptly removed from the track, the man’s actions did not disrupt the passing leaders. The stage was ultimately won by Italy’s Jonathan Milan.

This year’s Tour de France has seen several incidents. During Stage 11, security had to halt a pro-Palestine protester who breached the track, sprinting down the track close to the finish line while riders were passing by. The protester wore a t-shirt that read “Israel out of the Tour” and held a keffiyeh, a pro-Palestine symbol.

In another incident, during the 14th stage, an INEOS team car collided with a spectator who had stepped onto the road. Additionally, earlier in the month, a knife-wielding individual was shot in the leg by police for attempting to disrupt the race between Amiens and Rouen. This attacker had reportedly threatened people and stabbed a police officer near the finish line of stage 4, where crowds had gathered to witness world champion Tadej Pogacar compete against other prominent cyclists.

Despite the challenges, Milan, aged 24, emerged victorious in Stage 17, expressing gratitude to his team for their support in securing his second stage win in his debut Tour de France. Following a rain-soaked sprint finish in Valence, Milan, riding for Lidl-Trek, leads Pogacar by 72 points in the points classification, anticipating a fierce competition with the Slovenian star.

Reflecting on his achievement, Milan commented, “We achieved 61 points today, so I’m really happy about that.” He emphasized the team’s goals and determination to secure the green jersey, acknowledging the tough competition posed by Pogacar and vowing to give his best effort in the upcoming stages.
