The sunny weekend in the UK may not be as enjoyable for TV viewers due to signal disruptions caused by a high-pressure system. While the weather brings beautiful conditions, it can affect TV transmission. The BBC explained that high pressure can lead to weaker signals from local transmitters being lifted higher into the sky, as well as interference from distant transmitters.
Freeview users have been experiencing signal issues since last week, and these disruptions are expected to continue until Monday, May 19. Freeview advised viewers not to retune their TVs during this period, as the signal will be restored once the high-pressure system passes.
For those affected by signal problems, there are alternative options available. Viewers with smart TVs equipped with Freeview Play can switch to internet services like BBC iPlayer and ITVX instead of using the aerial. Another solution is Freely, a service by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, which uses broadband to deliver content unaffected by weather conditions, offering over 40 channels with live and on-demand content.
Freely has recently been updated to include features like a backwards TV guide and easier ways to bookmark content for later viewing, making it a reliable option during signal disruptions.
