Angela Rayner’s Seaside Home Vandalized with “Tax Evader” Graffiti

Angela Rayner’s new coastal residence in Hove was vandalized overnight with offensive graffiti, labeling her as a “Tax Evader.” The seafront flat, valued at £800k, bore messages such as “Tax Evader Rayner!” and “Tax Evasion,” along with derogatory remarks like “Bitch.”

Further down the street, near a luxury apartment once owned by Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour, additional graffiti messages were found. One message on the pavement read “Tax Evader Rayner,” while another accused her of selling British girls for votes. The latter message was promptly removed after the new owner took action.

Keir Starmer denounced the vandalism, calling it “appalling” for MPs to have their private residences targeted. Residents in the area expressed shock and dismay at the senseless act of vandalism, with one resident emphasizing the need for police involvement due to potential nearby CCTV footage.

A spokesperson for Angela Rayner condemned the vandalism, stating that such actions were unjustifiable and unacceptable. The incident occurred amidst Rayner’s ongoing political challenges following her acknowledgment of underpaying tax on the Hove property.

In a recent interview, Rayner admitted to receiving incorrect legal advice that led to the underpayment of stamp duty, potentially resulting in savings of around £40,000. Despite expressing regret over the error and considering resignation, she has taken steps to rectify the situation by engaging with the Prime Minister’s independent adviser on ministerial interests and committing to repay any outstanding tax.

Rachel Reeves, Chancellor, voiced support for Rayner, affirming confidence in her and acknowledging the efforts being made to address the tax issue. Reeves highlighted Rayner’s commitment to rectifying the mistake and emphasized the importance of adhering to tax obligations.

The latest definitive advice on Rayner’s stamp duty situation was received on Wednesday morning. The developments surrounding the tax controversy have garnered significant attention and sympathy, particularly in light of Rayner’s personal circumstances involving her disabled son.
