“McIlroy Eyes Sixth Major at Open Championship”

Rory McIlroy is aiming for his sixth major title and second Open Championship victory at Royal Portrush, hoping to replicate the frustration Jason Day experienced at the Masters. Day, a seasoned golfer, has often found himself in McIlroy’s shadow, including a runner-up finish at the 2011 US Open.

Despite trailing by seven shots before the final round at Augusta, Day couldn’t hide his frustration at McIlroy’s impressive performance. Day acknowledged McIlroy’s dominance, stating that even resorting to sabotage wouldn’t affect McIlroy’s game. McIlroy, on the other hand, has been working to regain his form after a dry spell, with notable performances at the Travelers Championship and the Scottish Open.

Day recognizes McIlroy’s class and skills, describing him as the best player of their generation. Day is seeking his first PGA Tour victory in over two years, with his last win at the Byron Nelson in May 2023. Despite a challenging start at Portrush, Day remains focused on his performance and aims to improve in the upcoming rounds.
