Google has announced a significant update for Gmail users this week. The update brings a fresh new look to the Gmail app on iPhones, aligning it with Google’s Material Design 3 update. The new design features pill-shaped buttons at the bottom and a rounded search bar at the top, providing a consistent experience across web, Android phones, and Apple devices.
Android users will also benefit from improvements as Gmail now offers an enhanced experience on tablets and large-screen phones like the Galaxy Fold and Pixel Fold models. Users now have more control over their email window with draggable dividers that allow them to choose between a one-pane or two-pane Gmail layout, with the ability to adjust the width of each pane in two-pane mode.
Additionally, Google has integrated its Gemini image creation tool into the Gmail app for both Android and iPhone users. This feature allows users to generate images within the app and easily save, copy, or insert them into drafts.
In a related update, Google Calendar on iOS now supports the creation and modification of birthday events, a feature previously available on Android devices. These new features are currently rolling out to Google Workspace customers, Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. The exact launch date for these updates has not been disclosed yet.
