“Alert: EE Customers Beware of Scam Texts”

A new wave of scam text messages has put all EE customers on high alert. The fraudulent messages claim to offer “EE reward points” that need urgent claiming before expiration. Recipients are lured into clicking a link that takes them to a fake EE website aiming to deceive them into giving away personal information and money. Reports indicate a surge in such incidents recently.

To caution others, numerous EE users have shared their experiences on online platforms. One user shared, “Received a text about rewards this morning. Clicked the link, looked very authentic, but please be cautious.” Another user admitted, “Clicked a link in a text about EE points, but realized it was a scam and exited the site immediately.”

Reports from cybersecurity firm Phonely reveal an increase in scam messages impersonating EE and being sent from random numbers. Phonely advises mobile users to be wary of unsolicited messages regarding rewards, prizes, or expiring benefits.

Bryn Thompson, Marketing Director at Phonely, warned, “These fraudulent texts are designed to appear very convincing and can easily deceive people. It is crucial not to click on links in unexpected messages. If unsure, contact your mobile provider using official channels.”

EE has clarified that they do not operate a rewards program. The company has provided an example of the scam message to help customers identify such fraudulent attempts.

EE’s statement reads, “If you receive a suspicious message like this, ignore it and avoid clicking on any links.”

The scam text typically states:

“The EE points program reminds you: As a valued user, we are offering you points as a gift. These points will expire in three working days. Click the link below to redeem prizes using your points!”

EE emphasizes, “This message is not legitimate. To stay safe, refrain from clicking on unfamiliar links in text messages, do not respond, do not call back, and never disclose personal or financial data.”

In conclusion, EE advises customers not to engage with any message related to reward points and to avoid sharing personal information or clicking on unknown links.
