Eddie Hearn has given an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training at the gym a few weeks after losing two close friends in a tragic car accident. Joshua, who is 36 years old, was in a serious crash in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite only sustaining minor injuries, boxing sensation Joshua narrowly escaped death by switching seats before the accident. Recently, he was spotted back in action at the gym in Dubai, putting on his gloves once again.
Hearn, Joshua’s longstanding promoter with Matchroom Boxing, met up with Joshua and shared a post on Instagram, praising Joshua’s resilience and strength. Hearn mentioned that while Joshua is taking his time to recover from the loss, he appreciates the support and love shown for his departed friends.
Following the incident, there have been uncertainties about Joshua’s future in the boxing world. Hearn previously stated that Joshua would take a significant break from the sport.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Hearn expressed the need for Joshua to have space and time to heal from the traumatic event before making any decisions about his career. Hearn emphasized that Joshua will decide his boxing future in due time, and everyone should listen to his voice in that regard.
Joshua has not addressed the ongoing speculation about his boxing career. Instead, he paid tribute to Ayodele and Ghami on social media, expressing gratitude for the love and memories they shared.
Legal proceedings against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the accident, will resume on Tuesday. Kayode faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
