Apple’s AirTag has become a must-have solution for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. AirTags, due to their small size, can be easily attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
The latest iteration of AirTag has been introduced, featuring an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip that significantly enhances its tracking range. This enhancement boosts Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it much easier to locate misplaced items from a greater distance. Additionally, Precision Finding is now supported on select Apple Watch models, enabling users to find lost items directly from their wrist.
Apple has also improved the new AirTag’s speaker, making it 50% louder than its predecessor. This enhancement is particularly useful for locating the AirTag when it is hidden in hard-to-find places like under clutter or behind sofa cushions.
AirTags continue to leverage Apple’s Find My network, which utilizes nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously to the owner. Apple has reinforced the privacy features of the system, ensuring that AirTags do not store location history and all communication is encrypted end-to-end for the owner’s eyes only.
The latest AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings like delayed luggage. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
The new AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected later this week. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, making it more affordable than the original version that started at £35 upon launch.
