“Baking Soda: the Ultimate Solution for Mossy Patios!”

Patios can quickly get dirty in the summer due to increased outdoor activity, leading to the growth of moss and algae that can be tough to remove. Moss and algae are more common in cooler seasons, but the high humidity in British summers allows these organisms to cling stubbornly to outdoor surfaces, as reported by the Express.

The persistence of these green nuisances is attributed to their ability to regenerate from just one spore, requiring continuous scrubbing to maintain a clean patio. However, experts at Infinite Paving have shared a simple method to eliminate moss and algae and prevent regrowth using baking soda.

According to them, using bicarbonate of soda is an unconventional yet effective way to eliminate unwanted weeds on pavements. Baking soda, with its powerful properties, can swiftly remove moss from gardens.

Despite its basic nature, baking soda is highly effective in cleaning various areas around the house and can effectively combat moss and algae. These organisms thrive in acidic conditions, but baking soda’s alkaline properties alter the pH level on surfaces, hindering their growth.

In addition to this, baking soda’s absorbent nature helps in drying out the patio, depriving moss and algae of the moisture they need to survive. This method not only eradicates the growth but also maintains a drier and less acidic environment to prevent regrowth throughout the summer.

To execute this method, start by sweeping the patio thoroughly on a sunny day to loosen stains. Then, generously sprinkle dry baking soda on areas affected by moss or algae. Allow the baking soda to sit undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours to dry out the problem areas and raise the pH level.

Continued application of baking soda can further enhance the treatment. Successful results are indicated by the browning of moss or algae, signifying their demise. Once dried completely, they can be easily swept away with a broom, leaving the patio clean and stain-free for an extended period.
