Police responded to a disturbance in Nottingham city center this evening where a group of young individuals were reportedly involved in a brawl near Winter Wonderland. The authorities were called to a street close to Old Market Square at approximately 6 pm after witnesses observed groups of teenagers, some wearing school or college lanyards, confronting each other.
Eyewitnesses reported that the youths spat at the police and recorded the chaotic scene unfolding on the rain-drenched city street. Nearby individuals at the tram stop were also heard screaming. The extent of any injuries resulting from the incident remains unclear. Upon arrival at the scene, Nottinghamshire Live observed no police cordon in the vicinity.
A photograph shared online depicted a group of officers within a calm crowd on South Parade, although the image appeared to have been captured after the altercation had dispersed. Tram services were briefly disrupted around the Old Market Square stop, as noted by the operator NET at 6:11 pm, but normal operations resumed by 6:51 pm.
Nottinghamshire Police later informed the Mirror that two individuals had been arrested in connection with the disturbance. The police stated that the arrests occurred following engagement with a group of youths at Old Market Square around 5:45 pm on Monday, December 1. No weapons were sighted during the incident, and the group was swiftly dispersed. Temporary tram service disruptions were reported, with damage to a tram door also noted.
A 15-year-old boy was apprehended on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, while a 16-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of obstructing a police officer in the line of duty. Both individuals are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
