A tragic incident unfolded in Brazil when Joao Maria de Souza lost his life after being crushed by a one-tonne cow that fell through the roof of his house in Caratinga, southeastern Brazil. The cow, which had strayed from a nearby farm, stepped on the asbestos roof causing it to collapse, leading to the fatal accident.
While Joao was sleeping next to his wife, the cow plummeted eight feet through the roof onto their bed, resulting in Joao sustaining a broken leg. Despite being conscious and seemingly stable initially, Joao passed away the following day in the hospital due to internal bleeding from the impact.
The Civil Police of Vale do Rio Doce initiated an investigation into the unusual circumstances surrounding Joao’s death. His mother, Maria de Souza, expressed disbelief and sorrow, stating that she never anticipated her son meeting such a tragic end.
This unfortunate incident was not the first of its kind in the region, with previous occurrences involving wandering cows causing property damage but no fatalities. Joao’s relatives raised concerns about the delayed medical attention he received, attributing it to his untimely demise rather than the cow itself.
Reports indicated that similar incidents had occurred in the area, with one involving a baby and a young child narrowly escaping harm. The region, known for its hilly terrain and cattle farming, witnessed these rare and unfortunate events that shook the community.
Despite the bizarre circumstances, the cow involved in the accident emerged unscathed from the incident. The community grappled with the aftermath of the tragedy, highlighting the need for increased safety measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
