Are you someone who excels at last-minute shopping or meticulously follows a checklist for gift-buying? Maybe you take pleasure in being a savvy shopper who hunts for unique second-hand treasures. Or perhaps you are the type who prefers to handcraft gifts for a personal touch. Discover your gifting style with this engaging new quiz.

Recent studies show that the average Christmas shopping spree involves waiting in line for about an hour and spending close to £500 on gifts for approximately eight recipients. Additionally, shoppers make three trips to five different stores and spend over 90 minutes online searching for the perfect presents.

Furthermore, 65% of individuals aim to find distinctive gifts this holiday season, avoiding common items. Forty percent are considering buying second-hand presents by exploring online marketplaces, charity shops, and vintage stores.

For 63% of people, purchasing second-hand gifts is a great way to save money, while 35% enjoy the thrill of seeking out a unique gift, despite the potential added stress.

Oxfam has conducted research and developed a quiz to mark the launch of its Personal Shopper Gifting service in selected stores, aiming to promote a more budget-friendly and hassle-free Christmas experience.

The service will be offered at Oxfam stores in Twickenham, Manchester, and Oxford on December 6th and 7th.

Lorna Fallon, Oxfam’s retail director, remarked, “We are witnessing a shift towards gift-giving choices that hold meaning or a story. This could involve selecting a pre-owned item, a handmade creation, or something unique to the recipient.”

“Shopping now involves not just convenience but also a sense of connection, especially during the holiday season,” she added.

Despite this trend, a significant 66% find Christmas shopping stressful, with crowded stores (52%) and time pressure (30%) being the primary challenges.

Furthermore, 69% of respondents indicated that poor customer service would lead them to shop elsewhere next year, according to a survey by OnePoll.

When asked about improvements for a better high-street shopping experience, 60% desired shorter queues, while 43% wished for easier parking.

Thirty-five percent of participants highlighted that friendly and helpful staff would significantly enhance their shopping experience, with 15% expressing interest in a personalized shopping service.

Lorna Fallon, speaking for Oxfam, emphasized, “What customers truly seek is the time and freedom to explore, get inspired, and discover gifts that carry meaning.” She continued, “Creating an atmosphere that is calm, thoughtful, and inviting can make a substantial difference, and that is what we strive to provide in our stores.”
