“eBay Slashes Fees for Buyers, Implements New Tiered System”

eBay has implemented a significant adjustment to its fee structure, resulting in reduced costs for buyers. The platform has slashed its Buyer Protection fee from 75p to 10p, aiming to benefit consumers.

Moreover, a new tiered fee system has been introduced for customers based on the item price. Previously, buyers were charged 4% on items up to £300 and 2% on amounts between £300 and £4,000. Under the updated structure, eBay users will now pay 7% on items up to £20, 4% on prices between £20 and £300, and 2% on values ranging from £300 to £4,000. No fee applies if the item exceeds £4,000 in value.

The revision in fees results in cost savings for buyers. For instance, previously, an item priced at £10 incurred charges of £1.15, which has now decreased to 80p. Similarly, an item sold for £100 would have incurred fees of £4.75, now reduced to £4.70.

Notably, the fee adjustments apply across all listings except for cars, motorcycles, vehicles, classified ads, and property. Buyers purchasing multiple units of the same item only pay the 10p flat fee once.

In addition, eBay is streamlining payment processes for sellers effective August 6. Sellers meeting specific criteria, such as ten sales totaling £150 or more in the past five days and no more than two unresolved cases in the previous 12 months, will receive their sale proceeds within 24 hours of a sale. This is an improvement from the previous waiting period of two days post-delivery confirmation.

Ebay had eliminated selling fees in October last year, allowing sellers to retain more earnings as they no longer incur final value fees, regulatory operating fees, or insertion fees. However, fees for car, motorcycle, and vehicle listings remain in place. The platform also removed selling fees for fashion items last year.

Furthermore, eBay has introduced a new default postage method called “Simple Delivery,” which calculates postage prices based on parcel size. Sellers receive a QR code or label from eBay to post their items, with exceptions for certain listings such as low-priced items, bulky items, and those available for local pick-up.
