“Fan Fireworks Force Abandonment of Ajax-Groningen Match”

Ajax’s match against Groningen was abandoned mere minutes after kickoff due to fans setting off fireworks inside the Johan Cruyff Arena. The interruption occurred as Groningen had possession in the 5th minute when fireworks erupted above the stand behind the Ajax goal.

Players paused and moved away from the fireworks display, eventually being escorted back to the tunnel. The fireworks continued for over a minute with no players on the pitch. Reports indicated that the fireworks were set off as a tribute to a deceased fan.

The game was called off by officials as player safety could not be guaranteed. Ajax expressed outrage in a statement, disassociating themselves from the incident and promising to identify those responsible. Security measures, including frisking spectators and using dogs to detect fireworks, were implemented but failed to prevent the disruption.

The club vowed to review camera footage and investigate to hold the perpetrators accountable. Currently placed sixth in the Eredivisie, Ajax has struggled in recent matches, without a win since October and suffering defeats in their last two games.

In other news, Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, presenting savings and a wide range of live matches. Sky will broadcast a minimum of 215 live Premier League games next season, a significant increase from the previous season.
