A former British marine tragically passed away following a fatal activity where he and a companion engaged in taking shots at each other’s heads while wearing bulletproof helmets. Sean O’Donnell, aged 37, and Aaron Prout, aged 34, alternated firing a rifle at each other in a Houston, Texas residence on August 17.
The dangerous game took a tragic turn, resulting in the fatal injury of Aaron, a British marine veteran. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that deputies responded to the scene and found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
O’Donnell, the property owner in the northern suburbs, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The Sheriff expressed disbelief at the actions of the two friends, criticizing their decision to shoot at each other wearing Kevlar helmets with a rifle inside a residential area.
Initially considered a potential suicide, the incident raised suspicions among the authorities, leading to a thorough investigation that uncovered the truth. Details regarding the specific rifle model used and the shooting distance remain undisclosed.
It is unclear whether the bullet penetrated Prout’s helmet or missed it, as Kevlar helmets do not offer absolute protection. A devastated family member of Prout described him as a former British Royal Marine who found happiness in Texas, where he pursued his passion for target shooting and had a successful career and business endeavors. Prout was known for his caring nature, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit.
O’Donnell, also a military veteran, was charged with Prout’s murder and is currently held in custody at the Harris County Jail.
