A 37-year-old father from Ipswich, identified as Jason Mark Lambert, tragically drowned while vacationing with his partner at Freedom Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when Lambert was swept away by a powerful wave in a rip current while swimming. He had arrived in Thailand with his wife on November 19 for a family holiday.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanan Mekchai of Patong Police Station, the authorities were informed of the incident about an hour after it happened at approximately 11:30 am. Lambert had gone to the beach with his wife around 10 am and got caught in strong waves while swimming, leading to his disappearance beneath the surface.
Witness Chariya Thaweerat Howells, 31, recounted that initially, people rushed to help two swimmers in distress before realizing a third person, Lambert, was also struggling in the rough sea. Despite efforts from beachgoers to rescue him and administer CPR until emergency services arrived, Lambert could not be revived.
The Mirror has reached out to the Foreign Office for a statement regarding this tragic event.
