In a tragic incident in Marana, Arizona, a two-year-old girl, Parker Scholtes, was left unattended in a hot car by her father, Christopher. The child was found unconscious after nearly three-and-a-half hours by her mother, Erika. Christopher had initially planned for his daughter to rest for just 30 extra minutes in the vehicle but got distracted with video games and adult content inside their home, leaving Parker to suffer in the extreme 43C heat.
A heart-wrenching image released by the Marana Police Department displays handprints on the car window near where Parker was seated, showing her desperate attempt to free herself from the scorching interior of the 2023 Acura MDX. The police investigation led to Christopher’s arrest, and he was charged with murder. Tragically, before his sentencing, Christopher took his own life in jail.
Despite Christopher’s demise, the authorities have provided new details on the case, revealing that he was engaged in leisure activities while Parker struggled in the car. The young girl was only discovered when Erika, a hospital anesthesiologist, returned home from work. Police reports indicated the car seat’s surface temperature was a staggering 149.1F.
Parker had managed to move towards the driver’s side window, leaving her fingerprints behind. Nearby, an iPad with a pink case and small pink sandals were found on the car floor. The vehicle’s west-facing window absorbed intense sunlight, causing the internal temperature to rise rapidly.
Initially facing a potential 20 to 30-year imprisonment, Christopher explained to the police that he had left Parker in the car with the engine running and air-conditioning on, assuming she was asleep upon their return home. However, he lost track of time, leading to the engine shutting off automatically.
