Recent research conducted by Airbnb and Strava reveals a shift among Gen Z runners away from urban settings, with three-quarters either already planning or considering a rural run-cation. The preference for these scenic locations stems from a desire to break free from the monotony of city running routes characterized by lackluster scenery, crowded spaces, and pollution.
In a collaboration this October, Airbnb and Strava are highlighting some of the UK’s most stunning rural running destinations, complete with cozy accommodations and nearby running trails. Some local bakeries even offer complimentary treats for runners to enjoy post-run.
Evelina Jarbin, Senior Director of Strava for Business, notes the evolving trend of seeking new ways to connect with the community through physical activity and exploration. As a result, a significant portion of young runners are eagerly anticipating or contemplating a countryside running experience to unwind and reconnect with nature and peers.
By utilizing the Maps feature on the Strava app, runners can discover authentic running routes curated by the Strava community. Many runners also look forward to indulging in post-run rewards at local bakeries, as shared by 72% of participants.
