“Greek Beach Tragedy: Husband Criticizes Delayed Police Response”

A British woman’s husband expressed frustration over the delayed police response and the assertion that she disappeared with an unknown man when she went missing on a Greek beach. Michele Bourda, 59, disappeared suddenly from a sunbed in Kavala on August 1 while her husband Chris, 66, was also present on Ofrynio beach. The couple, hailing from Glasgow, were on a two-week vacation and had gone for a swim before resting on nearby sun loungers. Upon waking up, Chris discovered Michele missing, although her belongings were left behind on the beach.

Recently, a body was discovered on a small private island called Fidonisi, approximately 40km away from where Michele was last seen. Although the body has not been officially identified, the police suspect it to be Michele based on the tankini she was wearing at the time of her disappearance. Mr. Bourda was informed over the phone that the body, found headless and partially consumed by fish, was believed to be his wife.

Expressing disappointment with the police’s handling of the situation, Chris criticized the delayed search efforts and refuted the claim that Michele had vanished with someone else. He highlighted the lack of police presence on the beach when Michele went missing and emphasized the need for more prompt and efficient responses in such cases.

Chris recalled Michele as being content before her disappearance, mentioning their swim, shared crepes, and plans for a nap that day. He noted her past struggles with depression and anxiety but highlighted her recent recovery and positive outlook. The Mirror has reached out to Greek authorities and the Foreign Office for further comments.
