John McEnroe lashed out at a young fan with profanity at an airport in Melbourne, following the Australian Open. The 66-year-old former tennis star, who was working as a commentator at the tournament, had a heated exchange with the persistent fan seeking an autograph and a photo.
Known for his fiery temperament during his playing days, McEnroe was captured on camera getting agitated as the fan approached him repeatedly despite his initial refusals. The fan offered help with McEnroe’s bags, but the tennis legend sternly told him to keep his distance.
Despite being urged to respect his space, the fan continued to request a photo, leading McEnroe to express his frustration and ultimately tell the fan to “go f*** yourself.” McEnroe, a seven-time Major champion, is renowned for his competitive spirit and on-court outbursts, having faced fines and defaults in the past due to his behavior.
After retiring from singles competition in 1994, McEnroe transitioned to a successful career in commentary, providing insights and analysis at various tennis events worldwide, including Wimbledon on the BBC, where he is mindful of his language use.
