Kim Jong-un’s Daughter Kim Ju Ae Steps into the Spotlight

Kim Jong-un made history by being the first North Korean leader to attend a Chinese military parade in 66 years. What surprised many observers was the unexpected appearance of his teenage daughter, Kim Ju Ae, walking alongside him. The young girl, believed to be the dictator’s second eldest child and estimated to be around 12 or 13 years old, has recently gained prominence in North Korea, earning the title of “respected” daughter, a term reserved for esteemed figures in the country.

Kim Ju Ae’s existence came to light when former NBA star Dennis Rodman disclosed that Kim Jong-un had more than one child during a visit to Pyongyang in 2013. Since then, the daughter has gradually emerged into the public eye, attending significant events like the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile and featuring on postage stamps in North Korea. South Korean intelligence reports suggest that she enjoys activities such as horse riding, skiing, and swimming, and was homeschooled in Pyongyang.

The presence of Kim Ju Ae at public events, including high-level banquets and military gatherings, hints at a potential succession plan within the Kim family. Analysts speculate that by showcasing his wife and daughter alongside him, Kim Jong-un aims to solidify the connection between his family lineage and the North Korean military. Additionally, the public appearances with his daughter could serve to portray him as a caring and responsible father in the eyes of the public.

Known for her distinctive style, Kim Ju Ae has been seen sporting a neat half-updo similar to her mother, Ri Sol-ju, and often dons a leather jacket, which is said to be her father’s favorite attire. While she is the only publicly acknowledged child of the dictator, it is believed that Kim Jong-un and his wife have two other children, adding further intrigue to the secretive regime’s future leadership plans.
