Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious career on a high note by clinching a significant victory in Brazil’s Triple Crown opener before retiring for good. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, the renowned jockey had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.
The 55-year-old officially announced last November that his racing days would conclude at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, with a final farewell tour in South America culminating at Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. During this last hurrah, Dettori triumphed with two wins, first aboard Speak Alpha and then piloting Bet You Can to victory in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.
This farewell performance also allowed Dettori to showcase his signature flying dismount celebration, a fitting end to his remarkable career. Reflecting on his final win, he shared his emotional journey, expressing gratitude for his fulfilling career and the opportunity to exit the sport on his terms.
Looking ahead, Dettori has embraced a new role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, under the leadership of Kia Joorabchian, marking a transition from his successful jockey career to a different aspect of the racing world. In a heartfelt social media message to his supporters, Dettori acknowledged the impact of racing on his life, reminiscing about his four-decade-long journey in the sport and expressing appreciation to his family, colleagues, and fans for their unwavering support.
As he bids farewell to the racetrack, Dettori leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and unforgettable moments that have left an indelible mark on the racing community worldwide.
