“Local Concerns as FatFace Closes Bournemouth Store”

FatFace has recently closed one of its retail outlets in Bournemouth, causing concern among local shoppers about the diminishing number of stores in the area. The closure of the branch on Old Christchurch Road was sudden, with a notice posted on the door indicating the shop’s closure. The notice directs customers to visit FatFace’s online platform for future purchases, but no specific reason for the closure was provided.

Inside the now-shuttered store, a chalkboard message expressing gratitude to customers was seen blocking the entrance. The closure has sparked discussions among shoppers on social media platforms like Facebook, with some expressing disappointment at the store shutting down.

This closure follows a similar shutdown of FatFace’s Peterborough branch earlier in June. The brand, established in 1988 by Tim Slade, faced changes in ownership, with a consortium of lenders taking over in 2020 before being acquired by Next in 2023 for a reported £115 million. Despite the ownership transition, FatFace has maintained its management and creative autonomy.

In addition to FatFace’s closure, other retailers like BrewDog, Lakeland, and Asda have also announced store shutdowns, impacting local communities and employees. Poundland, under new ownership by Gordon Brothers, is planning to close dozens of stores and warehouses, putting over 1,300 jobs at risk. The retail landscape continues to evolve, with companies adapting to changing market conditions and consumer preferences.
