Luke Littler recently shared that a comment from Ricardo Pietreczko motivated him to defeat the German player 10-6 and secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals.
Facing a challenging situation after falling behind 3-1 to Pietreczko, the 18-year-old Littler, also known as ‘The Nuke,’ managed to turn the game around by winning nine of the next 12 legs with an impressive average, advancing to the last eight in Minehead.
During a crucial interval when the score was tied at five each, Littler drew inspiration from Pietreczko’s comment, which fueled his determination to win. Reflecting on the match, Littler revealed that Pietreczko’s words motivated him further, leading him to secure victory and showcase his skills confidently.
With an average of 102.67 and hitting six 180s, Littler, who recently became the world No.1 after triumphing at the Grand Slam, displayed exceptional performance. He even replicated a contentious 121 finish from a previous encounter in a unique and successful manner.
Assessing his overall gameplay, Littler expressed his satisfaction with his comeback after being 3-2 down, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and improving his doubles performance for future matches.
In his upcoming quarter-final match against world No.9 Chris Dobey, Littler aims to continue his winning streak. A potential victory would set him up to face either Gerwyn Price or Daryl Gurney in the semi-finals.
The Players Championship Finals will also feature Nathan Aspinall against Josh Rock and James Wade against Jermaine Wattimena in the remaining quarter-final ties, concluding the afternoon session of the tournament.
