McDonald’s Fans Upset as Hash Brown Price Soars to £2

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing dissatisfaction following a viral post on social media that revealed the price of a hash brown has surged to nearly £2 in certain McDonald’s outlets.

The post features an image of a McDonald’s menu board displaying a £1.99 price tag for a hash brown at the specific restaurant visited by the individual.

Having garnered over 459,000 views, the post was captioned with: “£2 for a single hash brown. We’re officially calling it quits.”

Reactions poured in with one person commenting, “It’s getting out of hand. I don’t frequent McDonald’s much, but it used to be an affordable choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well go for the sausage sandwich.” A third simply stated, “Unbelievable.”

In addition, another user remarked, “Those hash browns are the best thing they’ve ever made. But £2 is just too much.” And someone else recalled, “I remember when they were 59p.”

A spokesperson for McDonald’s clarified, “A significant number of our restaurants are independently owned and operated, allowing franchisees to determine their own pricing. Consequently, prices of individual items may vary, yet all strive to deliver a top-notch dining experience and value for customers.”

This development follows McDonald’s announcement that they will be raising the points required to redeem free food through the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program. Currently, items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets require 5,500 points. However, starting March 17, customers will need 6,500 points for these items, earning 100 points for each £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Moreover, the points needed for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 points. The threshold for a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 to 3,500 points, while a Double Cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich will require 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

A McDonald’s representative informed The Sun that the loyalty scheme adjustments are in response to escalating food and supply costs. They highlighted the introduction of new redemption options like Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich to enhance customer choice.
