Meghan Markle’s father has been urgently hospitalized for a critical operation, according to his son. Thomas Markle, aged 81, was admitted to a hospital in the Philippines after falling seriously ill at his residence. He underwent a three-hour procedure on Thursday and is currently in intensive care. Thomas Sr. is scheduled for another surgery to address a blood clot, as confirmed by his son, Thomas Jr.
The relationship between Thomas Sr. and Meghan deteriorated following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, leading to estrangement. Thomas Jr. recounted the urgent situation that led him to rush his father to a local hospital in the Philippines, where medical professionals deemed his condition life-threatening after conducting various scans. Subsequently, they were swiftly transported by ambulance to a larger hospital in the city center for emergency surgery.
Thomas Jr. issued a heartfelt appeal for global support for Meghan’s father during this health crisis, urging people worldwide to keep him in their thoughts. Thomas Sr. has battled health issues over the years, enduring two heart attacks prior to Meghan’s wedding and a significant stroke in 2022 that affected his ability to communicate for an extended period.
Samantha, Thomas Sr.’s other daughter, expressed concerns about her father’s declining health, attributing it to the pressures he has faced in recent years. She emphasized his strength and resilience while acknowledging the challenges he has overcome, including heart attacks, a stroke, and other adversities.
Residing in a modest high-rise dwelling in Cebu, located over 7,000 miles away from Meghan and Harry in Los Angeles, Thomas Sr. has been cared for by his son, Thomas Jr. Despite his health struggles, Thomas Sr. relocated to the tropical island earlier this year, where the humid climate can be challenging for residents.
In a previous statement from January, Meghan’s father shared his reasons for moving from California to South East Asia, citing the region’s kind and respectful people, affordable living costs, quality medical care, and tranquil environment as factors influencing his decision.
